The fire in a transformer left three streets in Nerja without any electricity for twelve hours.
The fire started around 21.30h, Sunday night in a step-down, medium-to-low-tension transformer between Calles Pintada and Calle Cristo. The consequence was a loss of supply along part of Calle Pintada, and all of Calle Gloria and Calle Cristo.
The power didn’t return until 10.00h the next morning, meaning that businesses in that area had to close on one of the busiest nights of the year. They also lost everything in their freezers.
The transformer had to be stripped out and completely replaced, so not only local businesses lost money that night.
One final point, a group of locals tried to put the fire out, which is very dangerous when it is an electrical fire, until the local, fire service arrived.
