Almuñécar has launched its High Seas fleet to sweep the coast of pirates... sorry, we mean flotsam.
The municipal cleaning company, FCC, won the contract to operate the small craft that will ply back and forth just off the Almuñécar and La Herradura beaches, between 11.00h and 17.00h each day during the months of July and August.
The Mayor presented the Servicio Municipal de Limpieza del Mar in Marina del Este, which counts on four crew members; two on each craft. Also present was the Councillor for the Environment and Beaches, Lucía González and a representative from FCC, Daniel Laguna.
The Mayor pointed out that FCC not only keep the surface water free of debris and nasty floating things in the summer, but they also keep the beaches clean all year round.
Editorial comment: the press release is much longer and goes on about how wonderful everybody is, so we thought that we would spare you that. Oh, and most of the press release photo was taken up by politicians in the foreground, which I have chopped out, which is also why you only have half of one of the craft visible. You can thank me later.

There you go. Money well spent and I thought skimming off the top was only a politicians or councillors perogative !
