A lorry with a hidden cargo of hashish was rumbled by a Customs, sniffer dog at Motril Port.

The 39-year-old driver was arrested and the trailer impounded after 133 kilos of hashish were ‘sniffed out’ by the canny cannine, Júper, who earns his dog biscuits with the Servicio Cinológico de la Guardia Civil.

The find was made as lorries were disembarking from the Wasa Express ferry that had sailed from Tangiers in Morocco.

The dog had taken one sniff at the trailer waiting in the Punto de Verificación Fiscal, raised a dubious eyebrow and woofed knowingly.

The trailer was immediately and completely unloaded and the walls and floor inspected. However, Júper went straight to the front of the trailer so the customs officers started dismantling the wall, quickly uncovering a space packed with hashish packages.
