Almuñécar's Convergencia Andaluza (Benavides) fired off a broadside against the Mayor over the failed Hotel Bahía Fenicia project.
The CA accuses the governing coalition (PP/Más Almuñécar/IU Podemos) of having cost the municipal coffers over half a million euros concerning the loss of what was to have been the Costa Tropical’s first 7-Star hotel.
The CA claims that investors pulled out because of the obstacles placed in the way of building the hotel by the ruling coalition. The hotel was to be built behind El Peñon del Lobo (above Playa del Muerto in Cotobro).
“Almuñécar and La Herradura lost a golden opportunity to stand out amongst tourist destinations, by backing quality and defeating the seasonal limitations that we suffer,” reads the communiqué.
The press release closed with pointing out that a recent court decision had sentenced the Mayor to reimburse 415.156 euros (the tax levied on the building project) plus 127.539 euros in interest.

What happens to a €4.7 million grant. If the backers pull out. How very catholic of them. !! Would the grant have gained bank interest. If so then the monies should be paid back. With interest. !! Do not hold your collective breaths. Spain is such a wonderful country. Except for it’s inherited self interest peoples. These grants. Are they the same type as the one granted to the planned Hotel Pargo. Did the non existent hotels by the Penon in Salobrena get grants or the one by the roundabout. A shell standing. !!
