Parts of this walkway were left suspended near Los Moriscos because wave action had eaten out the sand from under it. However, the lifeguard lookout tower will stay where it is, even though waves have exposed its foundations.
The Town Hall is hoping that Costas will get things sorted before summer by replacing the lost sand; the new sand will probably come from Playa Azucenas at the other side of the port.
Another beach in need of attention is the Playa del Cable, which Costas was on the point of providing sand regeneration when the recent gale swept away the walkways to the shoreline. The Councillor for Tourism, José Lemos, explained that the benches and other beach furniture will have to be placed higher up the beach, away from the surf during high winds.
Apparently, the much needed breakwaters (beach defences) are only pending an Environmental Impact Report which means that it will be at least six months before work can begin… in other words, smack in the middle of summer. Obviously, if things will be ready to begin in July, then they will be postponed until late September when the beaches are no longer in constant use.
