Water, or the lack of it, has been a problem this year but now Motril Port won't worry about that, thanks to a large water-collection tank.
Following the construction of a pumping station for irrigation water (EBAR) next to the Port Authority building, there are 7.1 million litres of water available, which will bring down the port’s water bill by 16,700 euros in the first year that it is operating.
Up until now, rainwater and excess irrigation water went straight out to sea but with its collection into a large tank, it will feed the port green area watering needs, for example.
The tank has a capacity of 27,000 litres and is topped with two smaller tanks of 8,000 litres each. Presently the pumps use mains electricity but they will eventually be powered by solar energy.
