Salobreña Palm Pruning

The Salobreña Gardens & Parks Department has restarted the yearly palm-tree pruning work, after calling a halt over the congested summer period.

SAL Palm Pruning OC22The company hired for the task began on the palms lining Avenida del Mediterráneo, not only cutting off the excessive palm fonds, but also getting rid of the seed pods that litter pavements and roads, causing a hazard for pedestrians and bike riders.

The main reason that this kind of work was put on hold over the summer was because parking spaces on the affected roads and avenues would have to be cordoned off, precisely when they are in most need.

As the new round of pruning commenced at the end of last month, it is hoped that work in the northern end of Avenida del Mediterráneo will be completed within a week. After that, the operation will move to the north of the town.

It costs the town coffers about 36 euros per tree… and Salobreña has over 2,000 palm trees.

Editorial comment: Councillor Cano added that Parque La Fuente now boasts two more ducks! Is there no end to these wonders?
