Salobreña Romeria 2022

Salobreña Town Hall has just published the rules governing taking part in the Concurso de carrozas de la Romería del Sur.

SAL Romeria 400 x 250Those interested in turning their jalopy into a fair float so that it looks like a mobile garden have until the 30th of this month to submit their entry.

The Fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Rosario will take place between the 5th and 9th of October and as always, the ‘big day’ is the last day.

For the best float there are various categories and there will be three top prizes in all: 800 euros for the Best Float Prize, 500 euros for the runner up and 300 euros for third place. He who comes in fourth will be shot – just joking!

The judges panel will base their marks on the amount of work put in, costumes, music, colours and how they connect with members of the public.

The winning float will accompany the effigy of the Virgen on its circuit of the town.

Charge of the Light BrigadeNow, the horses always used to cause a bit of bother, thanks to ‘drink riding’ and would pound up and down the beach putting people’s live in danger, therefore they clamped down on horses, so anybody who wants to ride a horse will have to give their ID details together with a request form, the animals docs and will have to have a valid, civil responsibility insurance.

I do hope they sort out the riders that think the roads in both directions are not just for them to show how manly they are. Ignoring the common sense rules of being amongst traffic. As some tend to. Dare caution them and the wrath of the gods will hit you. Still once a year. !!

An ugly site and spoilt the views of those living opposite.shame the builders cannot be fined for non completion within a given time frame . For instance the Playa Granada businesses being slowly finished . Where the car parking was.!!?? The new connection road at the roundabout between the social services and petrol stations in the industrial area. I’m not certain why that is being slowly built or why it’s taking forever. Jobs maybe. !!??
How many years dies it take to finish two buildings and a road. !?
Really all of these abandoned projects should be torn down.
Not used as skeletal points of reference for drivers. So many everywhere.!!

Malcolm: not even the town’s biggest gossips appear to have heard anything, unfortunately. I ask my source again on Monday.

Do you have any information about the huge abandoned building by the roundabout on Avda Meditterano next to the little panaderia? Are the builders bankrupt? An ugly sight for everyone heading towards the beach!
