Playa Granada Shopping Centre

Plans to build a commerical centre on Playa Granada in Motril are going ahead in order to provide the area with services that are missing.

MOT Mar Fabiola Playa GranadaThe Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro and the Councillor for Urban Development, Antonio Escámez visited the shopping-centre, building plot yesterday morning, which occupies 1,500 square metres.

“Many times we have complained that tourism development passed us by in the 80s but today we can see how lucky we are to have this chance to develop the sector in our crown jewel, such is Playa Granada,” said the Mayor.

She said that Motril has this opportunity for an urban development that is respectful with the environment in a low-density urban area with many green zones.

The Councillor for Urban Development said that it was “not easy” for a development company to renounce an opportunity to building housing in favour of a commercial centre but that the company that is going to build the shopping centre, Molina Olea, is going to do precisely that because it is “very aware of the need for one.”

MOT Mar Fabiola Playa Granada PlanIsabel Molina Olea, who is the Manager of the business group, Molina Olea, said that her group was finishing off the Mar de Astrid development and foresees being able to commence the Mar de Fabiola shopping centre around the end of the year and have it complete by Easter so that it can be opened by next summer.

Finally, the actual plot measures 23,000 sq/m that was to be used for 367 housing units but the development company decided to use some of the plot for this shopping centre.
