Thinking of taking your car for Holiday to Morocco? Save yourself the bother and wait for a thief to take it there for you!

MOT Volcán de Timanfaya 400x250This was (more or less) the case of a Belgian car that was intercepted at Motril Port as the ‘new owner’ was trying to get it embarked for Nador in Morocco.

The Nissan Qashqai had disappeared in Belgium thanks to a 29-year-old, Belgian national of Moroccan origin who is charged with receiving stolen goods and document forgery.

The arrested woman was passing through customs control prior to embarking on the ferry, Volcán de Timanfaya. The Guardia Civil, suspicious of shiny new cars being driven by people jittery people, decided to check out the chassis and engine, serial numbers on their computers and discovered that it belonged to a Belgian car-rental company, which had been reported as stolen.

The officers then inspected the car’s paperwork and lo…it was completely Micky Mouse. The car was confiscated and the woman held in police custody pending appearing before a magistrate.
