Salvamento Marítimo went out to pick up two individuals yesterday, who had attempted a crossing on a jet ski but ended up on a small island half way across.
The maritime rescue serviced received an alert at 08.35h yesterday morning from the Centro de Operaciones y Vigilancia de Acción Marítima (Covam) belonging to the Spanish Navy, as the naval unit based on the Isla de Alborán had the two Moroccan males in their custody.
A fast launch, probably belonging to a gang specialised in people & drug smuggling had dumped the two men on the island before speeding off.
The Island commander has requested that the two men be picked up and transferred to the mainland to be processed, so the rescue launch Salvamar Gienah was despatched to collect them and bring them back to Motril Port.
