Vandalism on Calahonda Beaches

Vandals have been knocking over many of the thatched sunshades and upturning the sun beds on Calahonda beach at night.

ECO Vandalised Sunshades on Calahonda BeachThe people who own them have a short window in which to generate an income so when vandals destroy your business right in the middle of that ‘window’ it is a low blow.

“We have to put up with this sort of vandalism almost every day and it’s making things impossible,” said the owner, adding, “we work from dawn to dusk and when we arrive in the morning it’s to find the sunshades knocked over and the sun beds broken.”

He went on to explain that they have to dig out new holes for the posts and erect them each time. He said that they had told both the Town Hall and the Policía Local about it but, to date, nothing has changed.

The First Councillor of semi-independent Carchuna-Calahonda, Conchi Abarca, said that she has heard about this problem and has asked the municipal police to step up surveillance. However, she has asked the affected businesses to make a formal complaint in order to have a record of the damage.

Patrick: Yes, anybody who wants to set up a temporary business on a beach, such as sunbeds or pedaloes, has to have a licence, which is why Motril and Almuñécar cocked up this summer getting the licences out.

Hmm. I’m caught here. Unless the owners of these beds and shades. Actually have to have a license paid for.
Then why do they or are they allowed to take up. From the photo, what looks like prime positions on a public beach.??
Not advising vandalism as a recourse.
But like the infringement of the beaches by restaurants. Which happens a lot
The beaches are suddenly much smaller for families.
So if they pay the council for an area and that area is too big. Then greed is the key. As per normal. !!
