There were two fires on the vega in Salobreña yesterday evening, both on agricultural land, reported at 19.45h and 20.15h.
The first fire was on an empty building plot on Avenida Andalucía, right behind the Paseo Marítimo. This was at a quarter to eight. A team from the Motril fire station dealt with it promptly and there was no need to temporarily evacuate nearby housing.
The second fire was on wasteland on the Cuesta Gambullón, just at the base of the rock face where the castle sits atop. The fire was reported just half an hour after the first one and the flames mainly affected wild sugar cane and dry grass. As the first fire-service team were still occupied with the first fire, a second team was sent to this second fire, together with Guardia Civil and Policía Local officers.
Editorial comment: if some bugger lit them deliberately they should be sent to the Infoca, front-lines tackling the forest fires that are ripping across the country teams to risk their lives putting them out, if they like flames so much.
