The Guardia Civil in Salobreña arrested a 47-year-old man, with a criminal record, suspected of having carried out a theft in a business premises in town.
The incident took place on Monday when the establishment was closing up; the till being totted up and the staff restocking the shelves. Unfortunately, upon tallying the takings, they were left together with the day’s bills & receipts, etc in a drawer. The thief had seen where it had been placed and managed to make off with the money without being seen.
However, a neighbour saw him running out of the premises and immediately came to the conclusion that if somebody came running out in this fashion, it was because they had stolen something. That and the fact that the suspect is not only known to the police for being light-fingered, but to many of the townsfolk, as well.
This hawk-eyed neighbour immediately phoned the Guardia Civil, who rapidly deployed in the area around the shop in search of the said suspect. They quickly caught up with him. According to the police, once collared, he confessed to having committed this act of theft – no sole beating, ear flicking or nipple tweaking was required to elicit the confession.
He also handed back some of the money that he had stolen. The officers found the receipts, as well, in a nearby litter bin, but they are still investigating the whereabout of the rest of the dosh.
Editorial comment: so, there you have it! What a wonderful town where everybody knows each other and the police are not averse to a spot of hide & seek with the more boisterous citizens. Oh, and the lass in the photo is entirely unrelated to the incident.
