Las Peñuelas Problems?

The Barrio of Las Peñuelas, which is in Almuñécar, is a bit concerned about heavy, earth-moving machinery digging away in the area, kicking up clouds of dust.

ALM La Peñuelas Aerial ShotThe opposition party, IU-P says that it has been approached by concerned locals in the area but according to the Councillor for Urban Development it is authorised work and the construction company is carrying out this activity according to requirements.

The IU-P says that they had warned the said councillor months ago to keep an eye on what was going on up there. The main problem is the dust created by the bulldozers, etc, which is not being settled by spraying it with water – you can see these specialised bowsers with a rear, sprinkling device which are used for precisely this reason; laying the dust.

The result is that the residents of nearby houses now live in a cloud of dust, which is prejudicial to their health, considers the IU-P Spokesperson.

The councillor said that he had pledged to make sure that the building company took the necessary measures to prevent this very situation and that he had seen the sprinkler bowsers operating on site.

“The residents should not need to suffer repercussion from this kind of activity, so we demand that the Town Council does something about it now,” concluded the IU-P communiqué.

Editorial comment: the photo doesn’t clarify much, either where it is or what is happening, but for those of you who know Almuñécar will know the bar on the San Sebastian road which bears that name, located just opposite the ramp road down into the river.

Morag: thanks for the input. Can you send a photo of the problem to replace the one we have?

Glad youre reporting this – I went into their office three months ago to complain about he ugly mounds of earth and rubble they just left there for resident neighbours to look out on every day (after filling in a chirimoya orchard below the road!) – never mind the dust a you report! Was told in quite a dismissive manner “were not finished there and it will be fixed” well its not and there has been no change in probably 5 months – its just discgraceful
