The last anti-Franco guerrilla left the Sierra de Lújar in 1952, leaving behind comrades in prison or in unmarked graves.
The Asociación 14 de Abril paid homage to the victims of Franco-regime repression with comemorative acts in the municipal cementry in Motril and in the Centro de Arte José Hernández Quero, also in Motril.
For the Association 14 Abril holding these acts of homage on that day was significant because it marked the anniversary of the end of resistance in the Sierra de Lújar, taking as reference the date that the last resistance fighters crossed over the frontier into France having crossed Spain to reach safety.
The association also criticised the Junta de Andalucía under the PP for failing to keep to the roadmap laid down by the Recuperación de La Memoria Democrática Law – the Spanish right are against this law which authorises public funding of excavation of unmarked single and mass graves so that relatives can give the victims a decent Christian burial.

Does the “Asociación de 14 de Abril” have anything in common with the people behind the “Bavarian Soviet Republic” in Germany during the same time period?
A very sorry chapter in European history with Hitler and Mussolini given a free training run on how to wage war on grand scale. Of course Franco could not even beat the Moroccans so paid them to help him wage his pseudo religious war . The so called nationalists( rebels a more apt name) led by a bunch of nasty small so called men hell bent on slaughtering anyone who happened to be different and of course in the main very poor
Bit like the Junta in Greece really. Hiding in plain site. Still the same boys in control. Just eased back a bit on the fancy uniforms and carefully control the right arm.
