Sunday saw volunteers clearing up the mouth of the Guadalfeo. The clean-up had been organised by the Asociación GN Medio Ambiente and Decathlon.
This event was part of a programme belonging to Playas Sostenibles, which is a nationwide entity founded in 2006 and comprises of environmental experts. Its aim is to involve the whole of society in the task of improving the environment.
With the summer upon us when beaches are in maximum use, it was decided to clear up this area of the beach and to be seen doing so, as well, in order to heighten environmental awareness.
The volunteers managed to fill 12 bags with glass bottles weighing around 35 kilos each and 15 other bags weighing between 16 and 23 kilos, containing drink cans and tetrabriks containers.
GN Medio Ambiente thanked all of the volunteers who had participated and beachgoers who had spontaneously joined in picking up litter. Amongst the volunteers where staff from Decathlon, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary since its foundation.
Playas Sostenibles had also organised clean ups on beaches in La Coruña in Galicia and ones in Barcelona that same day.
