Almuñécar Town Hall has calculated that the damage to its beaches and their installations amounts to 1.7m euros.
Councillor for Turismo y Playas, Daniel Barbero, complained that Costas doesn’t attend to Almuñécar’s calls for beach defences.
Municipal Engineer, Juan José Fernández Peña, composed a report on the situation, listing the damage, amongst which was where the worst damage was caused, the seawall protecting the water park. Wave action has washed away the footpath running behind the water park above the seawall composed of large boulders.
It has also damaged the Árbol Blanco outside terrace but it hasn’t affected the running of the restaurant.
On Playa de Velilla near the breakwater and boat ramp wave action has swept all the sand away, along with it the terrace of Chiringuito La Barca. Even the concrete access paths leading down to the shore have disappeared in places, leaving a sharp step in the sand.
As for Playa Fuentepiedra breakwater, in front of Las Góndolas, the outer section has suffered damaged which has allowed the waves to carry away the sand beside it.
Which brings us to Playa de Cotobro, where large amounts of sand have simply disappeared and the boat-launching area has suffered considerable damage, according to the report.
There have been more rockfalls onto the pathway between Playa Cabria and Playa Curumbico which had already been closed to the public because of a previous one on the 17th of February.
