This Easter the DGT (Traffic Police Department) has entitled their road campaign, Let's Make Big Data Get It Wrong."
Why such a name? Because according to their predictions using algorythms and mathmatics, 36 people will die on Spanish roads over the Easter period.
This Semana Santa it is calculated there will be 14.6m ‘displacements’ on the road, by which they mean journeys made. The previous two Easters have been subdued affairs owing to Covid, so journeys, deaths and injuries were well below average.
However, this Easter, as mentioned before, the projection is 36 deaths, basing data on sex, age, type of vehicle and time of day.
The campaign will run from tomorrow until the 19th of April and will run two spots on national TV and social media; one of 45 seconds and the other, 30.
The Easter road traffic is the most intense because of the short amount of time it takes place; there and back in 10 days, most heading to the coast and returning to their points of origin, namely big cities. In fact, 90% of all displacements happen on just two days roughly around the same time of day.
The aim of the slogan for this traffic campaign is basically 36 people are going to die; make sure it’s not you, so drive safely.
