Motril Town Hall has decided to do something about the lack of shops, etc on the PL3 on Playa Granada by opening up publicly held land for development.
Development companies interested in construction projects on the 4,000 sq/m of public land must provide at least 1,000 sq/m, ground-floor space for business premises.
The plot of land covers 4,248.69 sq/m which has a top of 10,692 buildable metres (i.e., over several floors). The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, said that the price of the plot is 2.2m euros.
“The importance of this administration’s pledge becomes apparent with realities such as this one, which is a historic opportunity to secure our future as a town and as a [tourist] destination,” she said, adding, “all this process that is opening up now is fruit of our wish and pledge to bring about ambitious projects that will make Motril grow.”
Editorial comment: There are no shops, certainly no banks or other amenities necessary in the urban areas going up behind Motril’s western beaches, yet this seems like just another excuse to secure revenue from building licences etc.

On that note. The car parking area at the end of the golf club area. Past the Princesses not used much casa. Which had spaces for about 30 cars. Plus two rubbish bins. Was closed and was supposed to have a sail, surf, kayak school. But apart from the sub structure and loss of public parking. Not much has happened. Will these two structures turn into bars or casas. ??
