The day after the fire starting in the Valle de Lecrín, Motril also had to deal with a fire on waste ground.
The fire was in the northern area of the town, next to the Ronda de Poniente.
Most of the vegetation consumed is what in Spanish is known as monte bajo; i.e. grass, shrubs, bushes and even small trees. In this case, there was also areas of wild cane.
The emergency services received the first call around 21.00h on Sunday (yesterday) with the Motril fire service and the Policía Local attending.
Owing to the quick response the fire was under control and in the process of complete extinction that same night.
Nobody was hurt nor was it necessary to evacuate any dwellings. The cause of the fire has still not been determined.

Very worrying that fires appear to be on the increase with most seemingly involving human error or worse and less professional folk in the emergency services to tackle it
