Nasty & Not Cosher

The Guardia Civil are investigating a 53-year-old individual in Motril, suspected of animal cruelty and exercising a profession without the necessary qualifications.

SPN Seprona genericIt was on the 19th of this month that Seprona (the environmental branch of the Guardia Civil) received a complaint from a local who had acquired a puppy (a Yorkshire Terrier) via a webpage advertisement. The creature, however, was in very bad health when he received it (suffering from giardia and parvovirus) and despite taking it to a vet, it died.

The police investigation found that the person who was selling these animals via Internet was doing so without having the necessary documents required to be an official dog breeder.

Furthermore, in his home he had eight female and two male Yorkshire Terriers, all of which lived in an appalling condition, according to the police, lacking basic hygiene as they were surrounded by their own excrement. None of the animals had vaccine certificates nor ID chips

The unofficial dog breeder made videos, administering vaccines to not only his ten dogs, but also their offspring, something he was not qualified to do. Furthermore, the accused filled out animal passports with vaccination annotations that he  had given them.

Editorial comment: actually it is not clear whether the suspect was a man or a woman owing to the pronouns given in the police press release.
