Salobreña’s Pet Day

Today will see the Feria de Concienciación y Bienestar Animal, being held in the El Parque Municipal de la Fuente in Salobreña.

SAL Pet CareThe event is organised by the Environmental Department at the Town Hall in collaboration with the Asociación S.O.S Animales Salobreña.

Things kick off at 11.00h this morning with a display from the Unidad Canina de Protección Civil from Motril.

According to SOS Animals member, Francisco Nieto, the prime aim of this event was to bring over 200 dogs and 70 cats down from the Cantalobos Animal Refuge in Almuñécar to get some of them new homes. Another aim is to raise awareness to cut down on pets being abandoned.

Getting back to the programme for the event, at 12.00h there will be a presentation given by Manolo Gavilán and then at 13.00h there will be prize giving for the school kids who participated in a drawing competition.

Then at lunch time, there will be a paella followed later in the afternoon by a dog-judging competition – anybody can enter their mutt for the meagre fee of two euros.

At 16.00h there will be a display entitled Dogdance, put on by Sebas Huetillas and then at 17.00h the event will concluded with a presentation by the Duna Club Canino y Montemar.
