A 53-year-old woman lost her life and her 57-year-old husband was seriously injured when they were run over by their own van in a parking in Granada.
The accident took place around 09.30h on Calle Sócrates in the centre of the city when a van rolled back down a ramp within the underground car park because the handbrake had not been applied, first reports indicate.
The couple, who had just got out of the van, tried to stop it rolling back by pushing against it from behind but the van simple ran over them.
Apparently, they had alighted on the ramp to go to the control office for information.
When the emergency services arrived it was to find the badly injured man trapped beneath the vehicle; a situation that required the help of the fire service to free him. There was nothing to be done for the woman, whose injuries were instantly fatal.
The two victims are reported as Vietnamese tourists, residing in the UK.
Update: both victims were doctors working in London hospitals and the vehicle was a large van converted into a sort of camper van. Granada was their last port of call after touring around Europe.
