Unnecessary Square Work?

The socialist councillor in the Motril Town Council, Alicia Crespo, has been critical of the Mayor over the Christmas lighting and public works around town.

SAL Paellera Fountain Work 1121The councillor considers that the Mayor has messed up with her priorities, confusing the showy and necessary to the “real necessities of residents and businesses.”

She criticises that the fact that the work in Plaza de España (town hall square) has been inactive for the last nine months yet has recently accelerated: “this week, construction work has advanced more than it has in the last eight months, during which only one or two people were left working on it,” adding, “this is a clear indication that the Mayor had done no planning despite the money assigned to it; some 80,000 euros.”

She goes on to consider that the delays in this project reflect Mayor Luisa García Chamorro’s “lamentable management of the Town Hall.” She claims that this acceleration on the Plaza de España work was due to the Mayor realising how unhappy Motrileños were over how long it was taking and that it wouldn’t be finished in time to mount the Christmas lighting in the square this year.

“Luisa García Chamorro loves this kind of showy public works, which we insist were totally unnecessary because Plaza de España only needed good maintenance.

She concluded by saying that there were more important affairs to be attended to rather than the work on the Paella (roundabout on Avenida de Salobreña giving access to the municipal market) and Plaza de España.
