No sooner than fire restrictions finish (they ended on the 31st) than small fires are breaking out in Salobreña, Motril and now in Órgiva.
The hill fire occurred on Thursday just below Cañar and just above the town of Órgiva but still within its municipalitiy. It was reported at 16.40h next to the GR-4201.
Fortunately, by 17.30h it was declared “under control” so it was caught before it could do much damage.
According to the Mayor, Raúl Orellana, this speedy result was also due to locals helping out the fire personnel from Infoca and emergency services based in Órgiva. By 22,00h it was out.
A total of 16 Infoca fire fighters were needed to put it out, backed by a fire truck, who were joined by units from the Cadiar fire service, the Guardia Civil, the Órgiva Policía Local, as well as Civil Protection volunteers.
It appears that the fire was caused by somebody burning cuttings and letting the fire get out of hand.
