A fire started amongst a large clumb of pines next to the N-340 where it passes through the municipality of Salobreña.
The fire broke out a little before noon and caused a great deal of smoke and flames clearly visible from Salobreña.
Owing to the strong winds the fire pushed up along the coastal side of the N-340 from the point where it started, just down from the Urb. Alminares junction, igniting dry grass and small bushes.
The Salobreña and Motril fire services were called to the scene, as well as the Guardia Civil and the Salobreña Policia Local, in order to control the traffic flow – the over-taking lane leading up from La Caleta was closed off to traffic.
The fire was declared under control 13.00h, having consumed some two hectares of grass and shrub.
