Changes to the Paellera

Motril Town Hall has decided to completely overhaul the fountain roundabout on Avenida de Salobreña, which is level with the Municipal Market.

MOT Paellera Work OC21The locals know this fountain, which has been problematic from the start, as the Paella Dish because of its form.

The fountain mechanism; i.e., all the pipes and spouts, ceased to work efficiently, performing only an erratic display, so the fountain was turned off.

Now, behind the green-plastic fencing, they have completely removed the fountain structure, in preparation for the construction of a new one. The money for this purpose came from building licences for the many new developments going up around town.

According to the Mayor, María Luisa García Chamorro, the new fountain will have a large shield bearing the town’s coat of arms.

The Councillor for Public Works, Nicolás Navarro, said that it was not just about fixing a problem but also about embellishing the town. He described it as a “3-dimensional shield on top of a 3-metre-high pedestal set in a circular  water bowl and water cascading down…

Editorial comment: It’s going to cost 105,000 so had better rival the Niagara Falls in capacity and have a knight in full armour in the middle – just saying!
