Blind Gymnast

Herradureña, Teresa Moya, has demonstrated that despite being blind, she is an excellent gymnast and furthermore, the only one in Spain, possibly the world.

LHR Blind Gymnast Teresa MoyaTeresa combines rhythmic gymnastics with her university studies, which are Journalism, Law and Psychology.

Some would find it hard to combine the dedication that rhythmic gymnastics demands, both physically and time wise, with university studies in three fields, but to be able to do this whilst being blind speaks volumes on the strength of character of this young lady of 21 years of age.

If it were not for the fact that her trainer guides her to and off the mat, an observer probably wouldn’t realise that she is blind.

Her achievements include coming 5th in the Copa 7 Estrellas held in Madrid and her perseverance in training is tremendous. She says that of the 150 times that she threw up the weighted ribbon in one training session, she only managed to catch it once.

Judges make no allowances for her lack of sight because she competes under the same conditions as the rest of the competitors with nothing adapted.

As a little girl she was already training in this sport but without peripheral vision then at 16 she completely lost her sight.
