The Town Halls of Huéscar and Puebla de Don Fadrique have seen 200 hectares of crop, mainly broccoli and tomatoes, destroyed by hailstones.
Two tracks that serve the extensive fields have been damaged as well, leaving them impassable, according to the Mayor, Mariano García Castillo, who explained that the town would need to find 70,000 euros in order to repair them.
Some vehicles ended up bogged down in the mud and abandoned.
The Oficina Comarcal Agraria (OCA) de Huéscar calculates that loses in crop yield amount to around 8,000 euros per hectare, which adds up to 1,600,000 euros.
Nearby in the municipalities of Orce, Galera and Castillejar it is the complete opposite, because not a drop of much needed rain had fallen there.
