The Almuñécar Policía Local managed to prevent a flat fire from destroying the dwelling using several fire extinguishers to contain it.

The fire occurred around 20.00h, in Bloque D within the Urbanización La Palmera – that’s the one behind Restaurante De La Flor, opposite the Parque Botánico El Majuelo.

“Neighbours in the urbanización alerted the 112 emergency number. The municipal police arrived first, followed by the the fire service, proteccion civil and the Guardia Civil,” explained the spokesperson for the Policía Local.

The police also attended to residents, offering First Aid whilst other officers tackled the fire with fire extinguishers. There was so much smoke that the officer had to stoop as low as possible to get under the smoke to empty the first extinguisher onto the burning clothes dryer, which appears to be what caused the fire.

The fire personnel, seeing that the police officers had dealt with the fire set about ventilating the flat and stairs well, so that residents could return to their flats.
