Motril Extra Summer Parking

Parking is never easy on the Costa Tropical at the height of summer so all available extra space is a bonus for those in search of that elusive parking space.

MOT Summer ParkingFor this reason, Motril Town Hall is providing alternative parking to make up for the loss of unofficial parking on Playa de Poniente. No matter that Los Motrileños have parked there for over 40 years, the ever-understanding (sarcasm alert) Departmento de Costas is blind and deaf to pleas for it to be reasonable over this.

Costas has tried fining but the citizen rebellion against their authority piqued them into physically building a wall across the entrance to the beach.

When it was pointed out that emergency vehicles wouldn’t be able to access the beach, they relented a little and left enough space for ambulances and people with mobility problems to access the beach.

In total there will be 2,500 extra parking spaces starting from the beginning of this month – that’s 650 more extra spaces than Motril Town Hall produced last year and 1,000 more than 2019.

Before the parking plots could be opened, rental contracts had to be drawn up and the land strimmed of excess vegetation and other preparation tasks.

So where is the extra parking? There is one next to the Charca Suárez, one in front of the Chiringuito El Espeto, one behind Restaurante La Estrella. Also along the lanes next to the Rambla de las Brujas and the Camino del Pelaíllo. There is also parking next to the Centro de Desarrollo Turístico (a 3-day camel trek and a packed lunch away from the beach, admittedly) and the odd empty building plot.

Finally, the parking arrangement along a section of the Camino del Pelaíllo will be changed to side-by-side parking so that more cars can park along it and a parking area for bikes has been set up in the area of Hotel de Playa so that they don’t take up spaces for cars.
