Shopkeepers March in Motril

MOT Shopkeepers March in Protest NV20 01Dozens of shop owners and hostelry-business owners have protested through the streets of Motril today against the adopted anti-Covid measures.

They considered that, once again, they’re the ones who end up worse off with these kinds of restrictions.

They are angry that the Junta did not negotiate direct aid for their sector before imposing the last restrictions that saw all non-essential businesses closed down.

The meeting point for those who wanted to participate was Plaza de España before moving to stop outside the Town Hall to demand that the Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, came out to speak with them. However, she didn’t make an appearance so members of the governing council did, amongst them the Vice-Mayor, Nicolas Navarro.

The local-business sector do not consider that the 400,000 euros that the Town Hall was planning to hand out to be sufficient. They want to have the municipal taxes waivered but above all they emphasised that they don’t want hand outs, but rather the possibility to remain open and operate.

They feel that they are being criminalised and want the Town Hall to take their side before the Junta.
