The police operation, Estradaprix, has finally made an arrest in connection with a theft carried out on a Salobreña beach in August. The incident took place on the 11th of August and involved a tourist from the city of Granada.
The 38-year-old suspect allegedly took advantage of the fact that the victim was bathing in the sea in that moment, to go through her handbag and steal a wallet, sunglasses and car keys.
Besides the bank cards, which were later fraudulently used, the thief also made off with 95 euros in cash that were in the wallet, too.
The victim reported the theft to the Policía Nacional that same evening when she returned to Granada, who passed the information onto the Guard Civil in Salobreña.
The Guardia Civil soon discovered that the cards had been used at one of the town’s gasolinera so they examined the CCTV footage that corresponded with the time when the stolen cards were used and noted the number plate of the car – only ten euros of fuel were purchased because the thief didn’t have the PIN in order to buy more.
The driver then stopped at a gasolinera in Málaga and then several times after that until the card was blocked by the bank.
With the number plate, they had the details of the car owner; a resident of Málaga, who has been charged and will appear before the Motril law courts.
