On the 21st of last month the Guardia Civil entered marginal areas of Almuñécar in police vans, armed with submachine guns, looking for drugs and culprits.
This came days after a drugs ring in Almuñécar, dedicated to sending hashish from the local post office, was cracked, resulting in 13 arrests.
The sun was barely out on the 21st when the police moved in on La Chana (as the Barrio de la Carrera de la Concepción is popularly known) and Barrio Las Palomas, which is on the other side of the main road, across from the sports stadium.
But the hubbub of police activity involving 30 officers was not only in front of the law courts as suspects were brought in, but also the Plaza Kelibia.
The raid was part of the large police operation against drug running (hashish and cocaine) mounted by the Guardia Civil HQ in Málaga, which has spilled over onto the Costa Tropical.
There is a court gagging order on the whole operation but so far six individuals, all of whom are Almuñécar residents, were arrested on the 21st while the operation also took place simultaneously in other municipalities with Granada and Málaga,
According to the police, the drugs ring used Almuñécar as a ‘storehouse’ for their ‘merchandise,’ from which it could be distributed around Europe.
