A 32-year-old man was arrested, suspected of carrying out a hold up in a tobacconist in Almuñécar. The incident took place around 12.20h on the 17th.
The Guardia Civil received a call for assistance via their own emergency number 062. According to the caller a man with an athletic build, wearing a black cap, trousers and a dark sweatshirt had just robbed them at knife point.
The call was from the tobacconist on Paseo San Cristóbal in Almuñécar. The aggressor had held the knife to the shopkeeper’s throat but had only made off with several cartons of cigarettes.
The police immediately sent out four patrol cars to scour the nearby streets and by 12.30h one of them came across the suspect, whose description matched that given by the victim, not 100 metres from the tobacconist
He was in the act of discarding his dark-coloured sweatshirt leaving a white T-shirt beneath. The police when they stopped him found two knives tucked into his belt. He also had several cigarette packets in his pockets of the same brand stolen from the tobacconist.
The tobacconist and his assistant had no trouble identifying the suspect as the man who had just held them up.
After appearing before a police court he was remanded in custody in the provincial prison in Albolote.
