Spy in The Sky?

COS DronesMotril will be using aerial drones in support of the Policía Local in their duties to control the town’s beaches during this pandemic.

However, the bureaucratic process was protracted meaning that these aerial vigilance devices will not be available until summer 2021.

The Town Hall is actually looking at buying a second one, costing some 1,200 euros per unit, which will be used by The Urban Development Department for checking on illegal constructions in rural areas, for example.

The expense of this second drone has been put down as: “an expense derived from the acquisition of equipment for the production of video footage in favour of the Press Office.”

The PSOE main opposition party are not impressed and suggest that the Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, has purchased this equipment “to make promotional videos of herself in these difficult times,” claims Paco Ruiz, who is the Secretary for Communication, Education and Culture for the said party.

«She isn’t doing anything to help the hostelry and trade sector, other than permitting the extension of bar/restaurant terraces, so we therefore demand explanations.” he said.
