It’s very inconvenient when your get a flat or are in danger of running out of petrol without a gasolinera in sight, but when you car bursts into flames…

This is what happened on the A-44 on the south-bound lanes, more or less level with Nigüelas yesterday around 15.30h, which is when 112 received an emergency call.

Drivers had phoned in to say that there was a car burning fiercely and a woman was standing on the hard shoulder trying to attract people’s attention to her predicament.

The Guardia Civil tried to handle the traffic flow but could not prevent tail backs, whilst the fire service put the fire out. Although an ambulance also arrived, the female driver, apart from being distraught, was unharmed, which is more than can be said for the car.
