First of all, despite first reports, the body was not “headless” but lacking a face – a gruesome fact but one requiring correction.
The body of the unfortunate victim that was recovered by the Guardia Civil has been identified, thanks to the ID the man had on him in a waterproof bag inside his neoprene suit.
This 30-year-old man had been reported missing on the 7th of July off the Línea de la Concepción (Cadiz) and had been lost at sea until being spotted eight nautical miles off Almuñécar on the 12th by a French yacht. The Coastguards didn’t manage to locate and recover the body until the 14th.
The coroners reports has yet to be concluded but the fact is that the body was found in an advanced state of deterioration owing to having been in the water for around a week, which would explain the state of the victim’s face.
