Eager to take your money, bless them, the ticket machines in two of Almuñécar’s underground car parks have been updated.
Since the two underground parking facilities were opened nine years ago on Velilla and San Cristóbal the ticket machines have been pretty choosey about how you pay; only accepting cash and notes as big as a 20-euro one.
The Town Hall (to whom these ill-fated installations unhappily belong) has decided to cast the grumbling machines out – they have since been seen drinking cheap wine and sleeping under bridges.
Councillor for Citizen Safety, Paco Robles, explained that the snazzy new ones accept larger notes and, credit cards. In fact, they are so modern, having cost 30,000 euros, that it is rumoured that they will polish your flip flops whilst you wait.
Lastly, the Councillor explained that although these parking facilities are choc-a-bloc during the incredibly shrinking high season, the rest of the year they are almost empty. Therefore, the Town Hall has offered a monthly parking fee of just 32 euros.
At such a price, the old ticket machines will be able to club together and rent a space to live!

We got trapped at both the mentioned garages, when we wanted to leave again. The one at San Cristobal was locked, and we had to phone and beg them to open the doors so that we could enter and pay.
In the one at Velilla recently, we paid when entering the garage, but the machine only printed out a receipt and did not return our coded ticket.
Unfortunately, the gentleman who answered the phone could not speak or understand English. We eventually drove to the exit hoping to have an open gate, but, of course, it was locked.
After 15 or 20 mins, we stopped a lady who was driving into the garage and she helped us by explaining to the gentleman (she spoke Spanish), and he opened the gates and let us through.
NEVER AGAIN will we park in one of these two garages.

Where Is the entrance to the Juan Carlos one
I’m afraid we don’t know at the moment as that information was not included in the press release.
€32 a month is that if you pay for a full year or on a monthly basis.
