Salobreña Town Council, as reported in a previous article, has reopened the beachroad to one-way traffic whilst giving more space to pedestrians.
But is it such a good idea? We refer to using one of the lanes for pedestrians; not the concept of reopening the road to vehicles.
If you take a look at the accompanying photo, you will see a bus stop on the right yet there is nowhere for the bus to stop to pick up or let off passengers without holding up traffic flow on the only lane available. The parking area to the right will most certainly be full so there is no leeway there, either.
Besides, delivery vans and small lorries will have to park on the left and they will protude into the lane – with bollards on the rights, how will a bus get past?
Would it have just not been a lot simpler if they had said that right-hand pavement is for pedestrians heading towards Salomar 2000 and the pavement on the opposite of the road for pedestrians heading towards the Peñon and left the bloody road as it was?
Come the summer, this might well become a problem we feel. What do you think?
