The tasks of fire personnel are many and varied, which in the case of La Herradura translates to rescuing goats from swimming pools.
This was the case last month when a kid (young goat) found itself trapped at the bottom of an abandoned swimming pool on the Urbanización Cármenes del Mar on Cerro Gordo.
A resident of the said urbanización contacted the Almuñécar fire station to explain the plight of the young animal which was trapped in a pool with about half a metre of water in it.
Whilst some of the crew herded the animal along the pool, another two waited to grab it and swing it out – one fireman hung onto his companion as he leant in to get a hold on the frightened animal.
How the kid got into the pool in the first place is probably the result of looking for water to drink.
