Mayor Breaks Quarantine Law?

ALM Dismantling MarketThe Almuñécar opposition parties are up in arms because they consider that the Mayor of Almuñécar has allowed municipal workers to contravene the Lock Down in order to dismantle the Municipal Market.

Furthermore, the PSOE consider that the workers are not wearing the adequate protection stipulated by the health authorities concerning Covid-19. Their spokesperson, Rocío Palacios, went on to say that the Mayor had told the hitherto stallholders to go to the market and collect their things, precisely when people should be staying at home.

The Mayor replied that she is concentrating on protecting the citizens of Almuñécar and that this was not the time to bring up unrelated subjects. In short; she avoided responding to the accusations.

“Sra. Herrera is keeping to her plan and is trying to get the market demolished at a time when only essential building work is permitted and she should not be putting the health of locals at risk,” said Sra. Palacios.

She went on to say, “The market is empty and cordoned off and it is in no way justified to carry out a demolition when people should be confined in their homes,” she reiterated.

The leader of Convergencia Andaluza, Juan Carlos Benavides, considers the Mayor’s attitude to be “shameful” and “irresponsible” for putting the health of municipal workers and stallholders at risk.

“The Mayor not only ignores the norms stipulated by the State of Alert, but she is also contravening her own municipal agreements,” said, ex-Mayor, Sr. Benavides.
