Motril Obtains Tasers Too

AND TaserFollowing Salobreña’s lead, it seems, the Policía Local in Motril will be getting three taser guns as non-lethal weapons, costing between €1,000 & €1,500 each

The municipal police force will also have its fleet of vehicles renewed; seven patrol cars and two vans costing €120,000. All the patrol cars will be brand new and one of the vans, too. The other van of the two will only be done up.

The Councillor for Citizen Safety, María Ángeles Escámez, said that the acquisition of the tasers would improve both the safety of the officers, as well as that of town’s residents.

According to the councillor, at a later date they will acquire new motorbikes. She said that they also intend to increase the number of police officers and fire personnel. At present Motril has 90 police officers on its payroll.

Finally, she said that next month will see the new, municipal police station begun, with a budget of 2,869,318 euros and a completion period of 22 months.
