Last Friday afternoon, two policemen belonging to the Motril Policía Local saved the life of a young girl who had been choking, using the Heimlich Manoeuvre.
The officers had been patrolling along Calle Carretas when a woman ran up to them, shouting that she needed help as her child was choking to death.
They immediately followed her and found the 7-year-old girl in an unconscious state and barely breathing. They immediately began the Heimlich Manoeuvre to expel the foreign object that was blocking her air passage, which in this case was a large, boiled sweet.
Having coughed it up, she soon regained a normal complexion and was breathing normally. As can be imagined, the mother had nothing but praise for the officers, expressing her gratitude to them, as well down at the police station before their superiors.
Editorial comment: the Seaside Gazette’s medical advice is, if your husband finds himself choking on a piece of food, a swift kick in the nuts will expel the blockage, although it might be a few minutes before he is physically capable of expressing his profound thanks in words.
