Loss of Blue Zone Revenue

SAL Blue Zone OnLSalobreña opposition party, Más Costa Tropical, complained that this summer the blue zones hadn’t started to work until late, causing a loss of revenue.

According to MCT, the blue-zone parking didn’t come into force until “practically August.” This, said party leader, Juan Collado, means that the municipal coffers missed out on approximately, 50,000 euros in comparison to 2018.

He also says that when he questioned the governing party as to why this was, they responded that the contract had not been put up for bidding as they had been ‘en funciones‘ (the period between the elections and a new administration taking office).

Sr Collado considers that this reason does not seem credible because there was plenty of time between September 2018 and June 2019 to have accomplished this. Note: the elections were held in June.

Finally, to show how much was lost, he quoted the figures for 2018, 97,000 euros taken on the blue zones and 2019, only 47,000 euros.

Editorial comment: we’re quite sure that everybody, both summer visitors and residents are very sad to hear that they hadn’t had to pay to park on the beaches during most of this July past.
