Don’t Panic!

GRA Guardia Bike TourYou might have seen about 50 Guardia Civil motorbike riders out on the roads, all riding together, and wondered whether you were hallucinating.

Well, there are 50 Guardia Civil students belonging to the LXVI Curso at the Escuela de Tráfico de la Guardia Civil in Mérida… out for a tour with their commanding officer,  colonel-cum-insructor.

They set out on Monday from their academy in Badajoz and spent the following three days touring Sevilla, Huelva, Cádiz and Granada; some 1,400 kilometres in the saddle of their Guardia Civil patrol bikes.

This ‘outing’ is the final ‘practical’ part of the training, so upon arriving back today at the academy in Mérida, they will effectively pass out as motorbike patrol officers ready to fine the hell out of you… bless their cotton socks.

    Sorry, Quentin, it’s correct 😉

The Latin loanword cum, originally a preposition meaning with, in English has come to mean plus or along with being. It usually takes the form [noun]-cum-[noun], with the two nouns denoting characteristics of a person or thing. It’s often used to describe an individual’s or thing’s contradictory or surprising characteristics—for example, “Jimmy is a hunter-cum-animal-activist.”

I think a ‘cum’ instructor is a very different thing! Colonel-come-instructor would be more appropriate unless you are using Pornhub!
