SAL Guardia Civil Post 05A prisoner, who escaped from the holding cells in the Guardia Civil post in Salobreña on Tuesday evening, has since been recaptured.

Obviously, the Guardia Civil aren’t exactly bombarding press outlets with details but what we do know is that the prisoner was tracked down in a different town on the Costa Tropical, midday yesterday.

The Guardia Civil has begun investigating this slip up so no doubt heads will rolls…  They will also look into security measures to see if they should be made more effective.

The Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles (AUGC: i.e., their unofficial union) has criticised the fact that a prisoner was left in his cell under the custody of a rookie guardsman who had just graduated from the academy in Baeza in June; there was nobody else in the Guardia Civil guard post owing to an acute lack of personnel.

According to the AUGC, the prisoner had asked permission to use the bathroom. Upon returning he pretended to have returned to his cell, remaining instead in the corridor out of sight. He then forced a door at the back of the post, leading to the garage and from there he ran off.

However, as said above, there has been no official explanation as to what had happened.
