On a buy & sell, online website, where you normally find second-hand bicycles and computers, one offer stood out: Motril chiringuito:- 800,000 euros.
The website was wallapop and the chiringuito was the one that the Town Hall is taking back on Playa Granada, Chiringuio Oleaje. It is also on the books of a local real-estate agent.
You can read the story behind this emblematic chiringuito on Playa Granada in a detailed article that we published last month, but to sum up the situation in brief, it’s built on publicly owned land and owes the Town Hall buckets of money (150,000), so in a recent Plenary Meeting of the Town Council, a motion was passed to cancel the lease contract that was granted in 2011.
Hipólito Illescas, one of the owners of the chiringuito, explained that the advert has been on that site for ages but the actual situation is that they are negotiating with an investor in order to come up with the money to pay off the Town Hall and thus save the business.
