A reader has asked via facebook what is the racing going on in front of Cotobro. The answer is that it is Endurance Class B racing.
The event is a trials event for the Spanish and Andalusian Championships being held in front of the Marina del Este over the weekend. It started yesterday and at 17.30h and today at the earlier time of 12.30h.
The course is four nautical miles along a circuit marked out by buoys, which should take competitors around 40 minutes. Buoy A is next to the Punta de la Mona, Buoy B is next to the Peñon de Santo outer rocks, Buoy C is in front of Hotel Helios and Buoy D is more or less in front of Playa de la China, and the finishing line is near the entrance to the Marina.
The competing craft are speed boats of up to 850 kg, 7-metres long and made of fibre glass, which can reach speeds of up to 60 knots (110 kph).
